House District 5B: Wiener earns more votes than Hendrickson for House seat
Mike Wiener of the Republican Party beat his opponent, Gregg Hendrickson of the Independent-Alliance Party for the District 5B seat in the House of Representatives.
BRAINERD — Republican candidate Mike Wiener was elected to the House of Representatives District 5B with over 75% of the votes Tuesday, Nov. 9.
Wiener had 13,679 votes, while Independent-Alliance Party candidate Gregg Hendrickson pulled in 4,422.
Wiener is a husband and a father of nine children. He and his family operate an animal bedding and biomass company repurposing waste wood. Before moving back to his roots, he attended college in St. Cloud. He met his wife there and they had their first child. St. Cloud did not feel like the right place to raise a family, Wiener said, so they moved back to Todd County.

The clear message of this election was that those citizens who found a way to vote, in spite of the many efforts to restrict voting, chose democracy and a system based on the rule of law and the basic time-tested processes of American democracy.

With control of the two legislative chambers and the governor’s office, DFL lawmakers and Gov. Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
