EMILY — A 61-year-old Emily man and a 58-year-old Las Vegas man died Sunday, Aug. 28, after the plane they were in crashed near Emily.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a plane that had taken off but had not arrived at its destination at 6:44 p.m. near Minnie Lake Drive, north of Emily. According to the report, the sheriff’s office and the drone team, Crosslake Police Department, Emily Fire Department, and Lifelink III, all began searching the area. The plane was located in a wooded area near Minne Lake Drive.

The pilot, Douglas Johnson, 61, and his passenger, Lee Cemensky, 58, were deceased at the site.
Calls to the Emily Fire Department about the crash were referred to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office described the plane as being of a lightweight design.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
