WADENA — A 32-year-old Waubun man was arrested for possessing over 350 grams of fentanyl Tuesday, Sept. 20, after he was pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy in Wadena County.
The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office reported a sheriff's deputy was watching traffic near the city of Verndale when the deputy saw a vehicle speeding and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
During the course of the traffic stop, the deputy observed signs of criminal activity, and K-9 Nitro was brought to sniff the exterior of the vehicle, the sheriff’s office reported in a news release.
Nitro alerted to the presence of narcotics and a search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search, approximately 362 grams of suspected fentanyl was located in the vehicle.
The driver was arrested and booked into the Wadena County Jail.

Wadena County Attorney Kyra Ladd charged the man with a first degree controlled substance crime, a felony punishable by up to 40 years in prison.
The suspect appeared in Wadena County District Court on Thursday, Sept. 22, where cash bail in the amount of $15,000 was set.
The street value of the fentanyl is believed to be approximately $36,000.
