MINNEAPOLIS - KARE-TV news anchor Diana Pierce announced Wednesday that she is retiring after more than 30 years presenting the Channel 11 news.
Pierce worked at stations in New Hampshire, California and Virginia before coming to KARE, then known as WTCN, in 1983. She and co-anchor Paul Magers led the Twin Cities news ratings for much of their 20 years together.
Magers left for a job in Los Angeles in 2003, and Pierce began a transition from the prime-time news shows to daytime anchor spots in 2007. Pierce was named to the Minnesota Broadcast Association’s Hall of Fame in 2009.
Pierce currently co-anchors KARE 11 News at 11 a.m. and KARE 11 News at 4 p.m. Her last day on the air will be April 22.
While Pierce is leaving KARE-TV, she hinted at new work ahead. She’ll graduate later this month with a master’s degree in Arts and Leadership from Augsburg College, according to an announcement posted by KARE.
