Lakes Area Unlimited Learning and the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a "Lunch and Learn" event July 12 that focuses on the effects of demographic shifts on the local economy.
Since the last census and 2015 mini-census, major demographic changes have occurred in Minnesota. Dr. Thomas Legg, retired Applied Finance professor at University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management, has been studying this issue for several years. He draws on work done as a volunteer with the nonprofit policy analysis group, Growth and Justice. His articles have appeared in the Star Tribune, local media and have been requested by legislative committees. He will explain the widening economic differences by county and how it might affect businesses, public resources in Crow Wing County and the state. Legg is now a resident of Aitkin County.
The event is co-sponsored with the Cuyuna Chamber and attendance is free to the general public. Legg will present July 12 from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. at Heartwood Senior Living, 500 Heartwood Dr., Crosby.
If attendees would like a $10 box lunch, please reserve by July 7, by calling Ellie at 651-270-0708 and pay at 11:30 a.m. on the day of arrival. Chamber members contact Cathy Picek at 218-212-1938. Attendees may also bring their own lunch.
