Male student shoots himself in Mankato university library

MANKATO - Mankato police received a 911 call Monday about 3:50 p.m.from a family member on the Minnesota State University Mankato campus from a family member who said a male student made statements indicating he wanted to shoot himself.

MANKATO - Mankato police received a 911 call Monday about 3:50 p.m.from a family member on the Minnesota State University Mankato campus from a family member who said a male student made statements indicating he wanted to shoot himself.

A description was provided to police and search teams were formed to find Timothy Lee Anderson, 27, of Mankato, a junior majoring in philosophy. One of the search teams found Anderson on the second floor of the Memorial Library about 4:30 p.m. As officers approached, Anderson turned a handgun on himself and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officers secured the weapon and performed lifesaving measures, but Anderson was declared dead at 4:40 p.m. An autopsy was completed by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office and determined it was a suicide.

The Memorial Library was back open on a limited basis by Monday night.
