CASS LAKE - A 26-year-old Cass Lake man was arrested Thursday for taking an undisclosed amount of cash from a bank in Cass Lake, Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reported.
Staff at Western Bank in Cass Lake called the sheriff's office at 9:33 a.m. of a suspicious adult male was causing a disturbance. Officers from the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department arrived and found a male matching the description leaving the area of the bank. The man fled and a foot pursuit was initiated. A short time later, the male was taken into custody near a Cass Lake residence. Initial investigation indicates that the male did take undisclosed amount of cash from the bank prior to leaving building, the sheriff's office said.
The suspect, identified as Rex Basswood Jr., was arrested and is being held at the Cass County Detention Center with formal criminal charges pending.
The investigation continues with the assistance of the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department and the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
