A 26-year-old woman was injured and 22-year-old man was charged Tuesday with gross misdemeanor criminal vehicular operation and driving while intoxicated following a motorcycle crash Saturday at Brainerd International Raceway, north of Baxter.
Breezy Point Police Department responded to a motorcycle crash reported at 10:52 p.m. Police identified the driver of the motorcycle as Austin Reed Walden, 22, Lexington, who was sitting on the ground next to a motorcycle on its side. The passenger was identified as Emily Koester, 26, Binghamton, NY.
According to Crow Wing County District Court documents, witnesses stated Walden failed to negotiate a turn, slipping on loose sand and laying the motorcycle over on its left side. Officers spoke with Walden, who appeared to have abrasions to his face, spoke with slurred speech and smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages, the court document stated.
The passenger complained of pain to her left leg and knee and was evaluated by ambulance personnel.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
