AITKIN-A man was killed early Friday morning, Dec. 21, in a single-vehicle crash on Aitkin County Highway 12, about a half-mile south of County Highway 28 in Nordland Township.
The Aitkin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fatality reported at 5:12 a.m. from a passerby who saw a vehicle in the ditch. Deputies responded and reported a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup was southbound when it went off the road to the right, hit a road approach, rolled and then collided with a large pine tree.
The single male occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with the investigation.
The South Aitkin First Responders, North Memorial Ambulance and Aitkin Fire Department assisted at the scene.
