A man drowned Thursday afternoon while swimming on Clearwater Lake in eastern Crow Wing County, Sheriff Todd Dahl reported.
The man was first reported missing about 1:40 p.m. Dahl said the man was with other people on a pontoon and that several people went swimming off the pontoon in the lake.
"Everybody else was trying to get back on the boat, they turned around and he didn't come back," Dahl said.
The name of the victim, as well as further information on the drowning and emergency response, was expected to be released Friday, Dahl said. The drowning was the first of the year in Crow Wing County, Dahl said.
Clearwater Lake is an 880 acre lake located four miles south of Deerwood, off of Nokay Lake Road and near Nokay and Crooked lakes.
