MILTONA - One of the first drownings of the summer season in Minnesota’s lake country was reported Saturday when a man went overboard on Lake Miltona near Alexandria and drowned.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s office said that about 4:30 p.m. the 911 call came in that the unidentified man hadn’t resurfaced after falling in. The location where the victim was last seen was marked by GPS and search efforts began by the sheriff’s dive team.
North Air Care then responded and was able to locate the victim in about 6 ½ feet of water and resuscitation efforts began immediately. The victim was transported to shore and efforts to revive him continued, said the sheriff’s office.
However, he had been in the water for about an hour and did not survive.
The victim’s name is being withheld Saturday pending notification of family.
