The Cass County Sheriff's Office Thursday afternoon rescued a man whose all-terrain vehicle went through the ice on Leech Lake.

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reported at 1:49 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff's office received a report that a side-by-side ATV, which are designed to carry two passengers abreast and usually include roll bars and seat belts, had gone through the ice in the Agency Narrows area of Leech Lake.

Deputies and responders arrived in the area and located the single male occupant of the vehicle standing on the top of the vehicle, which was completely submerged. Deputies, using cold water rescue suits, and the Walker Fire Department, using a hovercraft, were able to rescue the man and transport him to shore for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Assisting at the scene was the Walker Fire Department, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, DNR Aircraft and North Memorial Ambulance.
