The Wadena Police Department reported receiving a report of a man lying near the railroad tracks shortly after 10 p.m. Monday between Jefferson Street South and First Street Southeast in Wadena.

After investigation, officers concluded the man, identified as Rodger Alan Arnett, 60, was crossing the tracks in an attempt to beat an oncoming train when he tripped. Arnett's leg was hit by the train, causing significant injuries to his leg and knee. Officers recovered bone fragments nearby belonging to Arnett, a news release stated.

Arnett was transported to Tri-County Hospital in Wadena and was later transported to another facility.
