Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center to host Synergy Fundraiser
The Mid-Minnesota Women's Center will host its annual Synergy Fundraiser at 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at Luminary Fern, located in the historic clocktower at Northern Pacific Center in Brainerd.
“Synergy” is the benefit that results when two or more work together to achieve something either one couldn't have achieved on their own. It's the concept of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
This word resonates for the women’s center on many levels, according to a news release -- relationships between shelter residents, relationships between advocates and residents, relationships between staff members, relationships between the shelter and the community, but most importantly, the relationship between a victim's past and future.
“All of these ‘parts’ can accomplish so much more working together than working independently,” the release stated.
In the last 12 months relationships at the shelter have occurred between 30 staff members, 156 volunteers, nine board members, 2,877 new individuals in need of services and 59 community organizations.
This year, the women’s center aims to raise $50,000 to continue offering hope and saving lives, the release stated. Every dollar collected at the event will go directly toward efforts to end domestic abuse, according to the organization.
Tickets for the Synergy Fundraiser are $50 and are available at the women’s center at 1414 Maple St. or online at www.32auctions.com/synergy2019 . Silent auction bids can also be placed on the website. All donations to the women’s center are tax deductible.
Each entrance ticket includes one drink token, hors d'oeuvres and entertainment.
Premier and event sponsors are still needed for the event.
For more information or to become a sponsor, contact Shannon Wussow or Vicki Flor at the women’s center at 218-828-1216.
National Domestic Violence Awareness Month
As October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Synergy Fundraiser is just one of several events taking place at the Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center.
Other events include:
Go Purple USA: Everyone is welcome to join staff, board members and volunteers wearing purple for a group photo to kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 1 at the shelter, 1414 Maple St.
Every October, the women's shelter hosts a candlelight vigil in honor of the survivors and in memory of those lost too early to domestic violence. This year’s vigil is at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Kiwanis Park fishing pier. The women’s center will renew its commitment to the Community Non-Violence Pledge.
Taco John's nonprofit fundraiser: 25% of all sales at the Brainerd store between 4-8 p.m. Oct. 2 will be donated to the women’s center.
Gander Outdoors fundraiser: The women’s center will sell hot dogs at the Baxter store 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 5, with 100% of the proceeds coming back to the center.
