Mille Lacs County crash claims life of 21-year-old woman

The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the state patrol.

KATHIO TOWNSHIP — A 21-year-old Taconite woman was killed Friday, May 28, when the car she was driving rolled and hit a couple of trees in Kathio Township.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the fatal crash at 2:24 p.m. A 2009 Saturn Aura was northbound on Highway 169 near Harbor Drive when it swerved and left the roadway into a ditch. The Saturn rolled, hit a tree, and struck and landed in another tree.

The driver identified as Carlee Lyn Lafond was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the state patrol reported.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, Isle Ambulance, the Garrison Fire Department, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and North Memorial Air Care assisted the state patrol at the scene.
