MINNEAPOLIS - Minneapolis police say they shot and killed a man after seeing him stab another man early Monday morning.

Officers responded about 5:15 a.m. to a 911 call from someone in the 2100 block of Minnehaha Avenue saying there was a “combative adult male armed with a weapon,” according to police.

Police spotted the suspect, who witnesses said was armed with a knife, and he ran into a nearby apartment. Officers tried to speak with the man, but after hearing cries for help, they said they broke into the apartment and found the man stabbing another man, police said.

Officers shot the alleged attacker, and he was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died. The stabbing victim also was taken to HCMC; the extent of his injuries was unknown, police said.

One officer was being treated for a broken bone.
