JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The North Dakota Highway patrol has released the name of a 61-year-old Minnesota man killed Monday in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 94 near Jamestown, N.D.
He was David Herold of Garfield, a small town near Alexandria.
According to the Patrol, Ashley Birkle, 18, of Killdeer, N.D., was driving a 2004 Chevy Tahoe east on the interstate near milepost 260 at about 8:25 a.m. Monday when she apparently fell asleep. The vehicle crossed the median and struck an oncoming westbound 2012 Ford pickup driven by Herold, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Birkel and Matthew Schroeder, 35, of Dalton, Minn., who was a passenger in the pickup were transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The roadway was partially blocked for several hours after the crash, which remains under investigation.
