MOORHEAD - Minnesota residents are reminded of the two property tax refund programs for homeowners and the refund program for renters.

The two programs for homeowners are:

- Homeowner's Homestead Credit Refund, you must have owned and lived in your home on Jan. 2, 2016. The refund amount is based on household income, tax filing status and property taxes paid on principal residence.

- Special Homeowner's Homestead Credit Refund that is based on the increase of your property tax over the previous year regardless of household income or property value. You must have owned and lived in your home on Jan, 2, 2015, and Jan. 2, 2016, and your property taxes on your home increased by more than 12 percent and at least $100 from 2015 to 2016 not due to improvements made to the property. The maximum refund is $1,000.

Renters may qualify for a Renters Property Tax Refund. Renters will need their 2015 Certificate of Rent Paid. The deadline to file for all of these programs is Aug. 15 and the form to use for all programs is the M1PR. Electronic submissions are free.
