Those interested in a seat at the table in their local city, township or school district government may begin filing to run for office Tuesday, Aug. 2.
The filing period for cities and school districts without a primary election and for townships with November elections runs through 5 p.m. Aug. 16.
All candidates must be eligible to vote in Minnesota, must have not filed for another office at the upcoming primary or general election, must be 21 years of age or older upon assuming office and must have maintained residence in their district for at least 30 days before the general election.
Those filing to run for school board must have not been convicted of an offense for which they are required to register as a predatory offender under Minnesota Statute 243.166.
Candidates for mayor, council member and other elected city offices must file with the city clerk. Candidates for township clerk, township supervisor, township treasurer and other elected township offices must file with the township clerk. Candidates for school board member must file with the school district clerk.
