ST. PAUL - Students in 29 Northwest Minnesota school districts would have access to mobile manufacturing training facilities under a proposal by Sen. LeRoy Stumpf, D-Plummer.
Stumpf said his bill seeking $350,000 is an effort to expose students to manufacturing jobs.
“Manufacturing counts for one out of every eight jobs in Northwest Minnesota,” Stumpf said. “This is a quickly growing job sector and demand for skilled workers will only increase."
He said the mobile classrooms are "perfectly suited for the small towns in our area."
The bill would fund four welding labs and two for labs with electronics, robotics and automated manufacturing training.
Wisconsin has similar mobile classrooms.
One of the main issues being discussed during this legislative session is providing training to greater Minnesota students to land jobs in manufacturing .
