Crow Wing County Land Services has recently completed the annual mowing of 13 non-motorized trails located throughout the county. The trails are available for equestrian riders, hiking, mountain biking, hunting and other uses.
The Wolf Lake Trails located east of Brainerd and Larson Lake Trails near Deerwood are groomed cross-country ski trails in the winter but are groomed for many non-motorized trail activities this fall, especially horseback riding due to the large parking area that will accommodate horse trailers.
The county encourages residents and visitors to experience these non-motorized trail systems. Each trailhead area has a map of the trail system and limited number of maps to take, if available. Locations and maps of the non-motorized trails can be found on the county's website at www.crowwing.us/index.aspx?nid=316 .
The County manages 105,000 acres of forest land for timber production and diverse recreational opportunities for multiple users. The sale of timber at public auctions during the year funds the county's management of these lands, while providing revenues to local communities. County forest lands are managed to strict environmental standards established by both the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the Forest Stewardship Council certification standards.
