The latest scientific information on the health of Minnesota's state bird is the subject of the August Crosslake Chautauqua program.
Carrol Henderson, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources nongame wildlife program supervisor, will present on loon research 1:30-3:30 p.m., Aug. 12, at the Crosslake Community Center.
Brand-new data from a statewide DNR loon study conducted over the last four years will be discussed by Henderson, co-manager of the study.
Items of interest such as population counts, migration studies with satellite telemetry, and analysis of living and dead loons for signs of contamination specifically related to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico will be covered.
