NEWPORT - The Newport Police Department’s entire patrol staff is under internal investigation after complaints were filed recently against officers Tyler Martin, Sean McArdell, Jeremy Brodin and Joel Muellner.

The broader investigation comes less than a month after the department’s newest hire, patrol officer David Crist, was named in a recently filed complaint.

All five patrol officers are “currently under internal investigation,” according to a summary of the complaints against the officers.

“All I can say is that right now there is an investigation and the city is following through,” Newport City Attorney Fritz Knaak said last week. “We’re going through the procedures and we will make a determination.”

Knaak declined to say whether the complaints were filed by a Newport citizen or city official.
