BAXTER - Activities, demonstrations and prizes are all part of an annual event aimed at bringing a community together.
The ninth annual Night to Unite is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Oscar Kristofferson Park, behind Baxter Elementary School.
The free event is designed to prevent crime by bringing neighbors together along with police departments. In this fast-paced and increasingly electronic world, people may live next to each other and yet barely know one another or perhaps have never met. Night to Unite was created as a way to bring neighbors together so they could get to know one another. Other goals include building neighborhood involvement by bringing police and community members together and raising awareness to crime prevention and local law enforcement efforts.
This year's activities include karate demonstrations by Ultimate Martial Arts at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. A K-9 demonstration is planned by Baxter Police Department at 6:15 p.m. Other activities include taser demonstrations.
Registration for door prizes starts at 5 p.m. Both adult and kids prize drawings begin at 7 p.m. People must be present to win.
