Nisswa: Regular council meetings change to Tuesdays
Council - with a new mayor, two new council members and one returning council member - holds early reorganizational meeting.
Perhaps one of the biggest changes in 2021 for the Nisswa City Council is a change in meeting nights.
The council’s regular monthly meetings will be at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month starting this year. For numerous years previously, the council met on Wednesday nights.
Ahead of this month’s regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 19, the four-member council held a reorganizational meeting Monday, Jan. 11, to make annual appointments.
Newly elected Mayor John Ryan and council members Ross Krautkremer and Mark Utzinger were sworn in last week. Ryan, serving a two-year mayoral term, served as a council member from 2017-2020 before defeating former Mayor Fred Heidmann in November. Krautkremer, serving a four-year term, is not new to the council. He was appointed to the council in June 2014, won election to a four-year term that same year and then didn’t seek re-election in 2018. Utzinger was elected to his first four-year term.
Don Jacobson is the only returning council member from 2020 following Mike Hoff’s resignation after he moved out of the city limits. Letters from those interested in the seat will be accepted through 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, and the council will then appoint someone to serve the remainder of Hoff’s term through 2022.
The council took the following action in a short meeting Monday:
Approved an agreement for engineering services through 2023 with Widseth engineering firm.
Appointed Jacobson as acting mayor; Gammello-Pearson as city attorney; Kennedy & Graven as labor attorney; city of Brainerd as city prosecutor; Pineandlakes Echo Journal as official newspaper; First Western Bank, Frandsen Bank, American National Bank and 4M Fund as official depositories; Schlenner Wenner & Co. as city auditor; and PFM Financial Advisors LLC as financial manager for 2021.
Approved 2021 council liaison appointments and commission/committee appointments.
