NISSWA-The City of Nisswa is developing a new comprehensive plan and will host a meeting Jan. 10 to seek community input to help create community-developed goals and aspirations to guide future planning efforts.
In a news release, city officials stated, a comprehensive plan is an expression of the community's vision for the future and a strategic map to reach that vision. Comprehensive planning is an important tool for cities to guide future development of land to ensure a safe, pleasant, and economical environment for residential, commercial, industrial, and public activities.
The city will host a visioning session from 7-8:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Nisswa Community Center. The session is open to all Nisswa area residents, both full and part time, business owners, community groups, students, artists and others to share their views and help shape the plan.
A diverse steering committee comprised of 13 Nisswa community residents met in December to discuss the project goals, purpose of such a document, schedule of events, comprehensive plan contents and possible elements. The steering committee members include the local business community, citizens at large and other various stakeholders from the area. The role of the steering committee is to collaborate with and involve stakeholders to ensure that community aspirations and concerns are understood, considered and reflected in the plan.
The session will feature interactive stations where topics like housing, transportation, parks and open spaces, land use, and economic development will be discussed and various mapping exercises will occur.
