U.S. Rep Rick Nolan recently announced the 2018 annual Congressional Art Competition, inviting high school students from across Minnesota's 8th Congressional District to participate and submit their work. The winning artist and a companion will be flown to Washington, D.C., for the unveiling.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors the nationwide high school visual arts competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in all 435 congressional districts. More than 650,000 high school students have participated since the onset in 1982.

"I greatly look forward to seeing this year's entries from the talented students in our district," Nolan said in a news release. "The winning piece from the 8th District will join hundreds of others on display in the tunnels between the House office buildings and the U.S. Capitol, where thousands of visitors and public officials will see it every day."

In addition to a recognition ceremony, the artist of the piece chosen to hang in Washington, D.C., will receive a pair of airline tickets to fly from Minnesota to Washington, D.C., for the unveiling.

Those wishing to participate should complete, sign, and send the submission form at https://nolan.house.gov/services/art-competition and email a high-quality photo or scanned image of their art to Nolan.ArtCongressional Art Competition, Office of Rep. Rick Nolan, Duluth Technology Village, 11 E. Superior St., Suite 125, Duluth, MN, 55802.
