WASHINGTON-U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan on Tuesday joined Republican Congressman David McKinley of West Virginia to introduce legislation allowing employees of federal prisons to carry firearms while commuting to and from work. The bill, H.R. 613, requires that a secure storage area be provided for employees to store their personal firearms while on the job, a release said.
"The brave men and women working in our prisons have an incredibly dangerous and difficult job," Nolan said in the release. "On the job, they often receive threats against themselves and their families from the dangerous and violent criminals they're responsible for guarding. Their job is often 'thankless,' and these hard-working people deserve to have the ability to keep themselves safe while heading to and from work."
