Subzero temperatures combined with even a slight breeze make for a bone-chilling cold as wind chill values plummet to 25-39 degrees below.
That's what the Brainerd lakes area can expect today.
The National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory through noon today. With wind chills this low, frostbite can take hold on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. The weather service in Duluth noted without precautions, such as a hat and gloves or mittens, worn when outdoors, wind chills may lead to frostbite and hypothermia, and advised people to bring pets in and to check on elderly neighbors. The cold is expected to continue through the extended forecast but will ease up from the deep freeze next week. Wind chills of 20 below to 30 below are anticipated tonight and Saturday night. Highs into the coming week should be in the teens with overnight lows above zero. There is a chance of snow Monday night into Tuesday morning and again later in the week.
