BAXTER — Local supporters gathered for a Quinn Nystrom stop at Whipple Beach in Baxter, Friday, Oct. 10, where the DFL candidate looked to address COVID-19 concerns.

Nystrom is undertaking a district-wide tour of the 8th Congressional District in which she’ll visit all 18 counties in the weeks leading up to the Nov. 3 General Election. In a news release, Friday, Nystrom described the tour as a way to meet and connect with constituents of all environs inside the largest Congressional District east of the Mississippi.

“Our district is big, and it’s diverse,” stated the release from the Nystrom campaign to kick off the county tour. “We have rural areas, and we have urban areas. We have farmers, laborers, teachers, business workers, stay-at-home moms, and so many other unique individuals — each with their own valuable stories to tell. Stories that deserve to be heard. And I intend to listen. Because when I make it to Congress, these are the stories that I will elevate and champion.”

Nystrom is challenging incumbent Rep. Pete Stauber, R-Duluth. Speakers at the Baxter rally included former state Rep. John Ward, who is running a write-in campaign for Baxter City Council; Dale Menk, DFL candidate for Minnesota House District 10A; Steve Samuelson, DFL candidate for Senate District 10, and former Congressman Rick Nolan.

Nystrom reported all rallies as part of the tour will be outside and masks will be required. After several stops over the weekend, Nystrom is expected to resume her tour Saturday, Oct. 17, in Belle Prairie Park in Little Falls.
