A 35-year-old Onamia man, Norman Allen Adams, was charged in Mille Lacs County District Court this week with first-degree burglary of an occupied dwelling, first-degree assault and fifth-degree assault to attempt to cause bodily harm.
According to the criminal complaint against Adams, the Mille Lacs Tribal Police Department responded Nov. 21 to a 911 hang-up/disturbance call at a residence in Onamia. The sergeant made contact with the residence lease holder who said she and two others arrived home and they were attacked. The woman identified Adams as the person who kicked open her door and assaulted her 16-year-old son. The sergeant observed the front door of the residence had two partial shoe prints on the front, appearing to be from a hiking style boot pattern. He also observed the door jamb to be damaged and pieces inside the door opening.
The son reported that when they got home, Adams was kicking in the front door, the complaint said. The son yelled at Adams as the door was forced open and Adams came up and swung at him, but did not make contact. The son said they wrestled to the ground and Adams scratched his neck and punched him several times in the back of the head. The son said after he let Adams go, he left with the others who were at the residence. Two of the people who left were victims in a home invasion Sunday.
The officer went to another residence to make contact with the suspects and Adams was located in the south bedroom and he was advised he was under arrest. The officer found that Adams' shoes were consistent with the prints on the damaged front door jamb.
