ONAMIA - An Onamia mother is accused of slamming her 11-year-old son's head against a wall three times and pushing him to the ground while holding him by his throat, court documents said.
Rachel Renee Cash, 31 was charged Monday in Mille Lacs County District Court with three felonies, which include domestic assault, domestic assault by strangulation and malicious punishment of a child.
Cash was seen in front of Judge Leonard Weiler who set bail with conditions which include she can't enter the victim's residence, cannot leave the state, cannot have any alcohol or controlled substances, random testing and make all court appearances. Her next court date is Nov. 19 for an omnibus hearing and for a proposed domestic abuse no-contact order.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Cash, the Mille Lacs Tribal Police Department and the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence at 8:34 p.m., Oct. 31, on the 16000 block of Nay Ah Shing Road in Onamia on a report that a mother was holding down her son and choking and hitting him.
Upon arrival, the officer met with a 22-year-old male who advised the officer that Cash was intoxicated and assaulted her 11-year-old son. The officer spoke with Cash who said she was angry and "I don't know what to do anymore." She said she held down her son and he was fighting and grabbing.

A 9-year-old, who was sobbing, told officers, "My mom started choking (the victim) and I was scared." The 9-year-old said Cash slammed the boy on the ground and choked and hit him.
A 20-year-old woman advised that she observed Cash and the son arguing. She said the son sat down on the stairs and Cash pushed his head, then pushed him to the ground and held him by the throat while holding him to the ground, the court document said. The woman said she was unable to pull Cash off the boy.
The complaint said the boy was crying and reluctant to talk. He said Cash slammed his head against a wall three times. The officer felt a bump on his head. the boy said he fought back and Cash threw him to the ground and kept hitting him.
The officers spoke again with Cash and she advised that the boy was angry and she did not know how to control him.
Cash has a criminal history of domestic violence. She has three felony order for protection violation convictions from on or about Nov. 26, 2012; two felony fifth-degree assault convictions from on or about Sept. 14, 2006; and she also has two misdemeanor domestic assault convictions from 2004.
