On Sept. 6, MN Surf Co. of Nisswa will host its second annual Paddlepalooza, a paddling event that benefits the Heartland Animal Rescue Team (HART).
The event will include a fully supported 5-mile paddle by paddleboard, kayak or canoe through the Gull Lake Chain. Stops along the way will feature food, beverages and entertainment. All of this, plus jet ski and boat safety support, are provided with the $25 registration fee.
Participants can sign up in advance at www.MNSurf.com . The event begins with a safety and information meeting at 11 a.m. at the MN Surf Co. store in Nisswa, right next to the turtle racing track. The paddle begins at noon, leaving from Nisswa Lake and traveling through Roy Lake, Spider Lake, Bass Lake and Upper Gull Lake, finishing at Zorbaz on Gull where a pizza party is included with registration.
The event will also include a stop for a barbecue and beverages on Roy Lake, and a hula-hooping group from St. Cloud known as the Twistin' Vixens will perform at a rest stop on the narrows between Bass Lake and Upper Gull. Once the paddlers arrive at Zorbaz on Gull, more food and beverages will await and shuttles will be ready with trailers to transport the paddlers and watercraft back to their vehicles in Nisswa.
Paddlers may supply their own paddleboard, canoe or kayak, or rent from a limited supply of stand-up paddleboards and kayaks that are available for rental from MN Surf Co. Call MN Surf at 218-866-0236 for more information on the event, rentals and registration.
