The new median on Northwest Fourth Street is in, and crews plan to start laying asphalt Friday, June 25.

The reconstruction project is on schedule for the road to be open by the end of July as originally planned, Project Manager Scott Hendrickson, of Anderson Brothers Construction, said Wednesday, June 23.

Concrete work is about 95% done, and there is still a lot of landscaping work to be done, as well as paving the bike trail that will be on the east side of the road.

The hot, dry weather over the past couple weeks has been both a blessing and a curse for crews.

“Dry-wise you don’t have to deal with the wet conditions as far constructability goes, but the wear and tear on the crew is not good,” Hendrickson said, noting the extreme heat takes a toll on workers.

While the road is set to open at the end of July for traffic, the actual completion date is mid-October, which is when crews will have until to finish up the last of the punch-list items.

“It’s been going really good,” Hendrickson said. “You’ve got your normal snafus that arise that aren’t on the plans. Once you start digging a hole in the ground you find out certain things are wrong, and it forces you to change your plans a little bit, but every job’s got that. It’s unfortunate, but it’s just the way it is. But other than that it’s been going pretty good, pretty steady.”
