PEQUOT LAKES - Early Childhood Family Education and School Readiness Parent Advisory Council Organizing Parents with children from birth through age 5 are invited to become a part of the ECFE and School Readiness (SR) Parent Advisory Council. Each school in Minnesota that offers ECFE and SR is required to have a Parent Advisory Council. The role of the group is to advise the ECFE and SR program staff on what are needs of families in the Pequot Lakes school district area.

Parents do not need to have a child enrolled in either ECFE or School Readiness to participate. If a parent has an interest in learning opportunities for young children they are welcome to come to the Advisory Council to work on providing programming to meet local needs.

Each school district has special situations in their community. The Advisory Council helps to identify the needs of the parents and families with youth children. Each school district wants to plan programs that fit their families. The district wants to hear from parents to offer the type of classes they'd like to take.

Parent Advisory Council members have told ECFE and SR staff to plan for full day classes of SR to help prepare students for full day kindergarten. School Readiness staff listened and there are two full day class choices offered in SR for fall.

For more information on the ECFE and SR Parent Advisory Council call Early Childhood Program Coordinator Shannon Wheeler at 218-562-7520.
