FRAZEE - A pickup rear-ended an Amish buggy in northwest Minnesota late last week, but resulted in no serious injuries.

The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. Thursday near the village of Evergreen, 10 miles east of Frazee in Becker County.

The Minnesota State Patrol said both vehicles were traveling west when the driver of the pickup, Avery Golkowski, 19, of Frazee, rear-ended the buggy, driven by Menno Schumucker, 40, of Frazee.

“They were traveling west into the sun; the driver told us the sun was in his eyes, and he did not see the buggy in front of him,” said Minnesota State Patrol Spokesperson, Sgt. Jesse Grabow, who says Golkowski reportedly had his cruise control set at 60 mph.

The buggy, being pulled by a horse, was displaying a slow-moving emblem in the back.

An ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but both drivers refused medical transport, as did a passenger in the buggy, Henry Mast, 69, of Wisconsin.
