Pioneer Elementary School in Pierz won the grand prize for Read Naturally's 2019 Read Live School of the Year Award.
Read Naturally, with research-based programs providing interventions and differentiated instruction for developing and struggling readers of all ages, selected winners based on school that substantially improved students' reading skills using the Read Live program during the 2018-19 school year. Winning schools demonstrated commitment to using Read Live with fidelity, students' growth in reading proficiency and positive changes in student attitudes and motivations.
As the grand prize winner, Pioneer Elementary wins a $2,000 Read Naturally gift certificate. Pioneer Elementary uses the Read Live program as an intervention for students in first through third grade, English language learners and dyslexic students. Of the students in first through third grades using the program, 80% meet their fluency goals.
Students using Read Live work mostly independently by reading high-interest nonfiction stories and completing a number of activities. The research-based curriculum is designed to build fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and phonics skills.
