PILLAGER - The Pillager School Board has selected six finalists to interview for the school district's superintendent vacancy. A news release issued by the school district said the finalists were selected from a pool of 22 applicants based on criteria established by the school board. The finalists are:
• Peter Haapala, Carlton School District superintendent.
• Julie Hartmann, former principal for Northeast Metro Intermediate School District 916.
• James Lentz, Pipestone Area Schools superintendent.
• Michael Malmberg, principal for the Elk River Area School District.

• Tami Martin, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Schools superintendent.
• Kevin Wellen, principal for Cass Lake-Bena Schools.
The school board accepted Pillager School Superintendent Chuck Arns' resignation in June. He said at the time he would continue to serve until a replacement was found. Arns had served as Pillager superintendent for nine years. Earlier in his career he taught math and science at Franklin Junior High in Brainerd, was an administrator at Lake Region Christian School for 20 years, taught math at Brainerd High School and was an educator at the Pequot Lakes Middle School.
The school board has scheduled interviews for the finalists beginning at 8 a.m. Oct. 11, in the school media center, located at 323 East Second St.South.
All interviews are open to the public.
