Cass County Health, Human and Veterans Services is participating in this year's National Child Abuse Prevention Month by helping communities and families promote the Pinwheels for Prevention national campaign.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to recognize that everyone can play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in the community, a news release stated.

A Pinwheels for Prevention event is scheduled for 2 p.m., April 19, on the Cass County Courthouse lawn in Walker. The campaign will involve a ceremony and the planting of a "garden" of pinwheels to promote support for the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Local dignitaries will speak and information on healthy child development and community services for families will be shared.

"The pinwheel symbolizes happiness and hope, which every child deserves, promotes positive parenting and serves as a symbol to reframe the topic of child abuse by focusing on ways to prevent children from suffering," the release stated. "Each pinwheel placed honors a child's life we have touched and a life that has touched ours."
