A traveling protest against the proposed Enbridge Sandpiper pipeline that would cross northern Minnesota will stop in Baxter on Aug. 19.
The Honor the Earth protest is part of a series of events scheduled from Aug. 13-25 that will include a horse ride, music performances, potluck picnics and information sessions. The event starts on Madeline Island Aug. 13-15 and concludes in Park Rapids on Aug. 25.
The Aug. 19 event will start with a Love Water Not Oil Horse Ride for Mother Earth from East Lake to Baxter's Northland Arboretum. At about 3 p.m. Aug. 19, there will be a media event where riders will be available to discuss their ride. Organizers said the timing of the media event will be flexible to accommodate the needs of the horses. A community potluck (contributed potluck items are appreciated) is scheduled for 5 p.m. Aug. 19. Honor the Earth executive director Winona LaDuke will speak at a sandpiper information session at 6 p.m. Aug. 19. Live music is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at the arboretum featuring Frank Waln, Pura Fe and Sonny Johnson.
On Aug. 20, the horse ride will travel from Gull Lake to Pine River. A media event with riders is set for about 1 p.m. Aug. 20 at a location that will be determined later. The timing of the media event will be flexible to accommodate the needs of the horses. At 6 p.m. LaDuke will speak at an information session at Pine River-Backus High School. Live music featuring Waln and Johnson is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at the high school.
On Aug. 21 the horse riders will travel from Pine River to Hackensack. Media availability (depending on the horses' needs) is scheduled for about 1 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Corner Store in Backus. Live music is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 21 at Northern Lights Casino in Walker. The music presentation features Johnson and Annie Humphrey and special guests.

After a break for a few days, the campaign will continue with a ride from Walker to Park Rapids on Aug. 25.
