BREEZY POINT-The Brainerd Polar Plunge will be March 4 at Breezy Point Resort.

The plunge begins at 1 p.m., with check-in from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 4 at the Plunge site.

In 2016, more than 325 people took the plunge in Brainerd and raised $79,000 in support of Special Olympics Minnesota. Special Olympics Minnesota offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round sports training and competition. Through Special Olympics' athletic, health and leadership programs, people with intellectual disabilities transform themselves, their communities and the world.

The Polar Plunge is held in cities across Minnesota on different dates where people build up the courage and jump into the icy cold lake water to raise money for the Special Olympics Minnesota. The funds raised benefit more than 8,200 Special Olympic athletes.

Registration is open online at plungemn.org for the 2017 Brainerd Polar Plunge. Participants may plunge as individuals or in teams. They are also encouraged to wear unique and outrageous costumes on plunge day. Plungers collect donations from family and friends to pledge money to their plunge. Each participant must raise a minimum of $75.
