MOORHEAD - A Breckenridge, Minn., teen is being held on allegations he tried to kill his father by bludgeoning him with a hatchet.
Jack Terrence Langston, 17, is expected to be charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault involving "great bodily harm" to the victim and second-degree assault involving "substantial bodily harm," according to documents the Wilkin County attorney filed last week.
In their delinquency complaint, police cited security video shot on March 28 in the apartment building Langston shared with his father Jerome. The father suffered facial and skull fractures but was able to return home after a short time in the hospital.
Wilkin County Attorney Tim Fox said he plans to ask the court to allow Langston to be tried as an adult because of the serious nature of the alleged crimes and the suspect's age. He said he has rarely had to do this in his 36 years as county attorney and most of the previous cases involved violent sexual crimes.
The alleged assault happened while Langston was on probation for terroristic threats and fifth-degree assault connected to another incident involving a separate group of people.
