McGREGOR -- Two men were arrested following a police pursuit Tuesday, Sept. 24, north of McGregor in Aitkin County.
A Minnesota State Patrol trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop at 8:11 a.m. on a Chrysler Sebring for a traffic offense. The driver of the Chrysler, who also had a passenger in the vehicle, did not pull over for the trooper after the squad’s lights and siren were activated, the state patrol reported.
The driver attempted to evade the trooper by driving at a high rate of speed and this continued over several miles. The pursuit continued near Palisade, where the front seat male passenger exited out of the moving vehicle and fled on foot. The passenger was apprehended a short time later by an Aitkin County sheriff’s deputy.
After the passenger exited the Chrysler, the driver continued to flee the pursuing trooper. The Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office set up spike strips. The Chrysler ran over it and one of the front tires was eventually related, the state patrol reported. The Chrysler finally came to a stop and the driver was taken into custody and transported to the Aitkin County Jail to face possible criminal charges.
The passenger was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries suffered while exiting the moving vehicle.
