DULUTH - A 37-year-old Duluth man was arrested early Tuesday after police said he admitted to fatally stabbing his 71-year-old mother at her Lincoln Park home.

Authorities were called to 810 N. 24th Ave. W. about 2 a.m. Tuesday after a male caller told 911 dispatchers to send police. A man met police officers at the door of the bungalow and told them they should arrest him because he had just killed his mother, according to a Duluth Police Department news release.

Officers arrested Carmen Emigdio Mosqueda and entered the house, where they found the body of his mother, Mary Margaret Mosqueda, who had been stabbed.

Carmen Mosqueda was taken to the St. Louis County Jail and booked for second-degree intentional homicide. Formal charges are expected to be filed in the coming days, police spokesman Jim Hansen said.

Police said Carmen Mosqueda has no previous criminal history. He was civilly committed for mental illness and chemical dependency treatment in 2010, according to St. Louis County court records.
