Pop-Tarts probable culprit in kitchen fire

Pop-Tarts appeared to be the culprit in a kitchen fire Monday morning at a residence in Brainerd, Capt. Mark Turner of the Brainerd Fire Department said.

Pastry-type items burn easily in a toaster and are a common kitchen household hazard. When toasting pastry items in the toaster, Capt. Mark Turner of the Brainerd Fire Department advises people to make sure the toaster is out in the open and not under any cupboards. He also advises residents to stay in attendance when toasting food items in the toaster, in case it does catch on fire.

Pop-Tarts appeared to be the culprit in a kitchen fire Monday morning at a residence in Brainerd, Capt. Mark Turner of the Brainerd Fire Department said.

The fire department was called at 7:12 a.m. to a residence on the 900 block of Brook Street in Brainerd. The fire was contained in the kitchen, but it also got into the walls. The fire was knocked down in about 10 minutes.

The cause of the fire appeared to be from a Pop-Tart in a toaster.
