Motorists traveling Highway 84 north of Pine River will encounter a detour and delays as the road closes at Ada Brook, located seven miles north of Highway 371 beginning Sept. 14, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.
Motorists may follow the signed detour using Highway 371 and Highway 87, or find their own alternate routes. The signed detour adds six miles to the trip.
The closure and detour will be complete by mid-October, MnDOT said in a release.
The closure is needed while crews replace the existing, narrow Highway 84 bridge spanning Ada Brook with a wider, double box culvert bridge. When complete, the project will improve safety and ensure Highway 84 continues to serve local communities and Minnesota motorists for many years, the release said.
