The Brainerd School District’s Insight program -- a program for adults with disabilities -- hosted its first ever Insight Prom Monday, July 15, at Cragun’s Resort, and the event was deemed a success by organizers.

The program typically hosts casual dances each month except for July and November, but decided to have a special prom event this year. Eiffel Tower centerpieces donned the tables, while attendees dressed in their best, danced the night away and took advantage of a photo booth.

Amynda Hadfield, Insight program coordinator, said via email she tries to offer classes and activities that are social, recreational and sometimes enrichment-focused to help teach life skills.

DJ Tami Lu provided the evening’s music, and when she asked the guests if they were having fun and wanted to prom to continue next year, she got big cheers.

A parent who brought her son and date, Hadfield said, thanked her for the idea and said the prom was a special night for her son.
