The Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport established a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program to comply with U.S. Department of Transportation regulations.
Airport officials anticipate they will receive federal financial assistance from the Department of Transportation, and as a condition of receiving the assistance, the airport must comply with federal regulations requiring the program.
The department’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program is “designed to remedy ongoing discrimination and the continuing effects of past discrimination in federally assisted highway, transit, airport and highway safety financial assistance transportation contracting markets nationwide,” the U.S. DOT website states. “The primary remedial goal and objective of the DBE program is to level the playing field by providing small businesses owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals a fair opportunity to compete for federally funded transportation contracts.”
As per section Part 26.45 establishing the upcoming program goals for federal fiscal years 2022, 2023 and 2024, a public meeting will be 10 a.m. July 30 at the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport Conference Room, 16384 Airport Road, Brainerd. The meeting will be for the purpose of discussing potential opportunities for program participation in upcoming projects, to gain input and to answer questions.
All interested parties are invited to attend, which may include but is not limited to minority, women’s and general contractor groups, community organizations, and other officials or organizations who may have interest or information pertinent to the implementation of the program. The meeting is not mandatory for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise participation on projects at the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport. The owner will provide a telecom call in line on request.
