BAXTER -- The 12th annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” men’s march is set to take place Aug. 24 at the Mills Ford Automotive parking lot in Baxter.
The event, which encourages men to walk a mile in women’s high heels or specially decorated shoes, is intended to raise awareness and put a stop to rape, sexual assault and gender violence, according to organizer Sexual Assault Services of Crow Wing County. High heels will be provided at the event, or participants can decorate their own.
The event is open to all, including women and children, and those who register online before Aug. 1 will have the opportunity to select a size for a T-shirt commemorating the walk. Women and children may wear regular shoes. Visit www.walkamilebrainerdbaxter.com to register or to donate.
“Please challenge your co-workers, friends and relatives to register a team to walk the walk,” a news release stated. “Come join us under the big tent, styling your hairy legs and crazy cute shoes to compete for prizes and show your support to End Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence in our community.”
All proceeds from the event will benefit Sexual Assault Services. Those unable to walk may sponsor the event by donating money or items for the silent auction. Checks can be made out to “WAM” and mailed to Sexual Assault Services, 324 S. Fifth St., Suite S, Brainerd, MN 56401.
