The Crow Wing County Highway Department wants to remind the public that state law prohibits the placement of advertisements within the right-of-way limits on any highway in Minnesota, which includes political signs.
Maintenance workers are currently mowing ditches. Improperly placed signs slow mowing operations which results in fewer miles mowed along our roadways each day. Unauthorized signs may also impact sight distances and create safety concerns.
These signs are subject to removal by Highway Department employees. Signs removed from the road right-of-ways will be taken to either the Brainerd Shop at 16589 County Road 142 or the Crosslake Shop at 13780 Whipple Drive, depending on the area where they are removed. Signs will be available for retrieval at these locations.
State law also prohibits erecting advertising devices on private land without the consent of the owner or occupant, on public utility poles, on trees or shrubs or by painting or drawing on rocks or natural features.
